Lost in the Woods

If I were stucked in the woods, I will first start screaming and shouting for help, see if there's anyone around me. If yes, I will be delightful. If no, I will sit down, and start worrying about my furture. One thing I learn about survival is never get lost! That can kill you! I will get a stick on the ground, and draw a very very prominent line while I am walking, that way I won't get lost, I still know how to go to my initial place.What I will do to make me live is try my best to make a shelter for me to live. I will try to get wood, stone, and grass. Even though I don't know how to make a shelter, I will try. After shelter, I try to collect food and water from forest. Well, there may be some fruits in the forest, I am not sure, but if you wanna survive in a forest, you gotta try. Lakes can be around the forest. Even though lake water is way more terrible than normal water, it is much better than sea water. I will try to make fire at night. Thay way, I can see objects at night, and calling for help. Lost in the forest and lost in the desert will be different. Desert is a very dry, arid, desolate, and empty place. Forest is place with many trees, changing weather, and some water (higher possibility to find). You may die easier if you are lost in the desert, because desert is a hot place and lack of water. Forest is a warmer and more water place compare to desert. However, people stucked in the desert has higher possibility to be found by others, because no barriers can block them. Well, I think lost in the forest is still better than lost in the desert.

Personal Assets

In "The Hatchet", Brian's assets are some conis, a dollar bill, a broken digital watch, a hatchet, and luck. All of these can help Brian to survive through wilderness. Another asset for Brian is he has watched some shows about how to live in a forest. That teaches him some knowledge and some skills about survival. For example: he knows that berries are hidden inside the bushes. His personal attributes are he needs to be more independent, he needs to learn how to control his temper. He always thinking about the foods and their family when he is living in the forest of Canada. This may hurt him in the furture! He needs to stop thinking about that! Well, I think my greatest assets is that I am pretty good at jumping. When there was a long-jump test, I always jump the farest. Also, I think I jump pretty high. I was one of high jump member at my old school. Another asset is I know some martial art. That case, I can defend for myself. I think I have some qualities that might hinder my survival. I will complain a lot about the mosiquitos and bugs in the wilderness, I will keep saying that they are so noisy. Also, I am afraid of killing animals. It frightens me!

Solving Problems

I have learned 2 useful skills after I arrived PAS. One is how to play basketball, and the other is how to speak proper english. Before I was a sixth grader, I rarely play basketball. That was because my local school didn't teach basketball, they taught more stuff on track and field. We ran a lot.  The only thing they taught us about basketball was shooting and dribbling. They didn't even tell us the rules of playing basketball, so I didn't know the rules. After I arrived PAS, I started playing different types of sports. The most common one is basketball. I learned how to play basketball. The second thing I learned is speak proper english. Before I arrived PAS, I speak terrible english. That was why I didn't speak a lot when I first came to PAS. After a couple years of learning, my english improve a lot, even though I still need a lot of improvement to count as a good english speaker. English is a very useful language, because it is the international language. I know I will use it in the furture. I also used english to communicate with my two counsins in America. They are better english speaker, cause they born and have edjucation in America. They are not really good at chinese, so the only communication tool that I can use is english. Without english, I will need to use hand gesture, which is not more useful than language.

Long Life

I don't think it is fair to keep the secret so that only a few people know. Even though I say it's not fair, doesn't mean I like the secret. If the secret is found by the people on earth, everybody will be coming to moon just for have longer life. Well, if that's the case, the United Nation should think of a solution. I will suggest the United Nation to limit the amount of people that go to moon. I will say that only the rich people can go. It is like if you are richer, you will have more money to pay for medical care, so you will live longer. People may start working hard and saving money for going to moon, that way, world economy will grow. Mabye expose the secret will be good for the world! I think living 200 years will be good for the people who have wonderful life but bad for the people with miserable life. If the people with wonderful life live 200 yeas, they can enjoy their life even longer. That means they can still play their video games, still playing cards with their friends, or reading his unfinished book. It will be bad for the people who miserable life, the life will torture them longer. That means they will still live in a small box, eat a slice of bread for each meal, or living alone with no company. Well, it depends. I won't like to live 200 years, cause that's way to long. I will like to live until 104 years old. That is longer than normal people, but not like 90 years older.                     

The Secret

In the story "The Secret", Mr.Henry Cooper has found out something weird and suspicious on moon. The people on moon were much colder to him compared to when he first came to moon. The people used to talk to Mr.Henry Cooper and be generous to him first, but they started to ignore him later. Dr. Hastings discovered that on the moon, a hamster live over 5-10 years, when hamster can only live 2 years on earth. On earth, people and aniamls spend a lot of time in their life time fighting against gravity, your heart has intense tension, and so as your body parts. However, there is no much gravity on moon. People can use less strength but have the same work. That is why living things can live longer on moon than live on earth. Dr. Hastings doesn't want to reveal about his observation, because if he reveals, everyone is coming to moon to live. In the story, it says that the earth is already to crowded and people need more space for living. If people know that you can have extra life time if you come to moon, many people will come. In that case, moon may be crowded as the earth. Mabye not many people will stay on earth if they know the truth, earth will become a abandoned a planet. Dr. Hastings doesn't want that happens, so he doesn't reveal the truth.

Setting and Plot

Setting plays a important role in the story. Setting is actually the thing that causes the plot, which means that the setting causes the chain of events. A story changes by the setting, if the setting changes, the story will be different. For example: a girl was selling matches during winter. She was very anxious that somebody could buy a match from her. Unfortunately, no one needs match. The girl really wanted to sell some matches in order to buy some foods for her little brothers. So she just stood there for a whole night. The next day, people saw a body lay on the snow floor, and that person was the match girl. She was died, because it was too cold out there. She froze to death. If you looked back, you could find out that the setting had killed the girl. If the climate wasn't so cold, mabye the girl would be able to live longer. Mabye someone would buy matches from her, and she would earn some money, and the story would be totally different!
Another example will be during the Mongolia Empire. About 800 years ago, the Mongolian had conquered tons and tons of lands. They had defeated the Byzantine Empire and the Song Dynasty in China. The Mongolia Empire was one of the biggest empire in history, it's land was about 2 times bigger than Russia.  Well, when the Mongolian conquered a place. They would rob, kill, or burn. They would do whatever thing to make they happy. No one will do that in modern day. War will hardly happen in modern. That is because the modern people hate violence, we love peace. From the two examples I gave you guys, I hope you can understand how setting affect story.

Writing is Difficult

Ray Bradbury, the autor of "There Will Come Soft Rains", says that writing is a agonzing, dreadful, and a terrible occupation. I agree with him. Writing is painful for many peoples, especially for students. You need to think about something to write with before you actually start the writing, and you need to check if there's any spelling or grammer mistakes in your writing. Anyway, writing is hard. Even though he says that writing is a terrible occupation, he still write. Well, I don't know the actual reason, but I think he writes because writing is the way to express and relieve himself. He put his feeling into his writing. The words in the essay can be changed because of the writer's mood. Second possible reason for him to write is because he likes to challenge himself. He knows that writing is hard, and that is why he is doing this. Third possible reason for him to write is because he is a writer. If he stops writing, he won't earn any money, and we all know that peoples need money. That is why he writes, because he wants money! I don't think I will become a writer when I grow up. I won't, because writing was not my best subject since elementry school. Also, I am not really in to writing. I don't enjoy writing a lot.

Chronological Order

The story "There Will Come Soft Rains", the story describes what happen in August 4, 2026 when humans become extinct because of nuclear weapons. First, the clock calls for get up from bed and breakfast, the breakfast stove gave a sigh and eject toast, eight eggs sunny side up, sixteen slices of bacon, and two coffees, and the robots clean the food that no one touches. Second, a dog comes inside to the house to look for human, but found no one. Then, it turns crazy and dies. Finally, a poem is played at nine-five, and the house starts burning. These events happen in time order in August 4, 2026. I think the speed of the house is destroyed has some significance. This shows that how useless a perfect matter will be without a user. If humans are still existed, the house may not die. The people can help on extinguish the fire. But now humans are extincted, no one is going to be able to help the house anymore. The house continues to live on after the human, but is eventually destroyed by the fire. This can be a representation of humans are completely extinguished. Not only themselves, but also the object they made. Mabye there will be some other kind of creature exists on earth later, but they won't be able to see humans or human's contributions to earth anymore!

Irony

In the story "There will come soft rains", humans have lived in a ideal life in which that every need is already satisfied. However, they ended up destroying themselves in a nuclear war. People fight for money, territory, resource, religion, an right. One of the reason is territory. The more territory that a country has, the more space that the people of the country can live. People may have war with the others, because their life was too harsh. They were looking for a better life. People fight for resource, more resources that a country got, a better life can be made in that country. People fight for money, which can provide a better life for them. All of the reasons for having a war is to have a better life. Then why still people fight, when everything is already satisfied? That is because not everything is satisfied, some improvements can still be added in. It is very hard to make people satisfied. When they get this, they want that, and when they have that, they want this. We called this greed. I think this is actually pretty ironic. People were looking for a better life and the thoughts of want to have a better life have brought them destruction. I don't think the countries in the modern day won't dare to have war. Well, at least for the countries that have nuclear weapons. Cause if they started a war, the world is gonna be ended.

Thankful

November 25 is Thanksgiving, the day that you drink and eat a lot. But not only eat and drink, Thanksgiving is also the day you being thankful. People can be thankful to many things, for examples : water, food, air, person, building.......you can be thankful to everything. I am thankful to my parents, because they raised me. They provide me a warm and comfortable house. They sent me to the expensive American School, because they want me to have higher achievement than the others. My parents had helped me a lot, I am very grateful. I am thankful to my teachers. That include the teachers in local school and Pacific American School. They have given me knowledge and intelligence. Without my teachers, I would have become a dumb, silly person that got mocked and scolded by the other people. My teachers had helped me a lot, I am very grateful. I am thankful to my friends. They made me felt better when I wasn't in a good mood. They kept me happy and active. I am thankful to my neighbor. I play chess with him a lot, and I have learned some tips from him. I need to be thankful to God. Without god, the world will not be like the world. It will be the world that is empty and blank, which is unimaginable. Anyway, always be thankful. 

My Invention

If I am inventing something, I will invent a flying car. The modern day cars are pretty good, but they can have some improvements.  One good thing about inventing flying cars is that the problem of traffic-jam can be solved. Almost every time when there is a raining day, traffic-jam occurs, and that makes people piss, cause that is wasting their valuable time. If flying cars are invented, there will be no more traffic-jam, that way, people will be able to get to go to school or work on time, they will be delightful. Second advantage about inventing flying cars is less friction on the wheel. The modren cars are always having frictions with the ground. The wheels can be broke because of the rubbing. Also, if the floor is very wet. The wheels will get wet, and accident will occur. Cars will be out of control and bump other cars. If the car can fly, friction and rubbing will not happen, and that maintain the wheels in good condition. Third advantage about inventing flying cars is the cars can just go through the pond, lake, or mountain.  They can just pass through them instead of taking the winding routes. Even though flying cars are extremely useful, danger can occur. Mabye someday when you were driving a flying car, and suddenly you found out that the car has no power. The car will fall and smash the people on the road. So if you driving a flying car, make sure you check the power of the car constantly.

New Technology

Technology can affect use very easily. They affect the way and qualify of our life.Today's life is already very convienent, people can call people with cell phone or telephone, they can use transportation machine, such as cars, trains, and buses. People got computer, they used computer in searching informations, doing work, and also for entertainment. There are light bulbs almost in every streets, so that when it is night, people can still see other objects, unlike before Adesine was born. Even though, most of you may think that there is no improvements for techonology anymore, techonology will never stop improving. In a hundred years after, life is going to be very different. There will be no car on the road anymore, they will be flying on the sky. Because that can solve the problem of traffic jam and slippery. A lot of things will become automatic, such as door, air condition, dryer, and water box. You can make the thing automatic, but some times autobatic stuff can be inconvienent. People may not actually bring their books to school. They will all be using computer, but they will also have a writing class, the class that teach students to write words. A lot of robots will be made in the 2110. You can see robots every where. They helped human being to do something, such as checking homework, throw the trash bags, and clean the dishes. Mabye robots will be used as military too in the furture, like Start Wars.

Setting as a Character

The setting will definitely take a role as a character sometimes. In most of the stories, there will be someone who is actually against the main character. They have interactions with the other characters. Some of the stories don't really have someone who making the conflict, for example, "In Trouble". In "In Trouble, there isn't acual person who is having the conflict with the main characters, is the setting that makes the story intresting. The harsh weather condition and the elevation of the hole make the readers curious about what will happen later on. The setting can kill the main character if nobody comes to save him. You can think the setting as a killer in "In Trouble". There are some others story that the setting plays a role as a character, such as "The Cay''. "The Cay'' is about a boy and a old man were stuck on an island. They have no way to get out of that island unless someone comes to sav them. Before the people rescue them, they need to survive. They need to collect the food and conserve the water in order to make sure that they can live until a boat comes save them. They also need to watch out some diasaster, such as hurrican and storm. Anyway, setting is not just the background of the story, they can also be used as a role.

Compare and Contrast Dogs

I got three dogs. They are our family's pets. Their names are Happy, Dogu, and Wofu. Some of you may think their names sound strange and funny, and I agree. Two of my dogs are female, and the one been excluded name Wofu is male. All three dogs are very different even though they live together more than a year already. Two of dogs have the most differences, and minium list of similarties. They are Dogu and Wofu. First, Dogu is much cuter than Wofu. All of our family's dogs were street dogs before. We adopted Happy first, and after about 2 months, we adopted Wofu and Dogu. They were only about a month old when we adopted them. The first time when we family saw Wofu, we thought "Oh My God! Why is this dog so ugly?'', and then we saw Dogu, and then we thought "Oh My God! This dog is super cute!" At first, we were only going to bring Dogu back home, but we have sympathy on Wofu, so we brought him back.
Other differences are Dogu is much smarter than Wofu, and Wofu eat much faster than Dogu. We spent about a couple months to teach Dogu how to sit, but we spent over a year to teach Wofu how to sit! Even though Wofu is dumb, there is one thing he is super good at, eat! He eats a lot and eats them with super high speed. He eats so fast that he can finsh a plate of bones within 15 seconds! That is also why he throw out a lot, cause he eat too much. Other differences that I won't explain it very detail are: Dogu runs faster, Wofu is way heavier, Wofu barks more, and Dogu sleeps more. They have a few similarties, such as they both like to play and they like delicious food.

Knowledge of Dogs

In "In Trouble, Paulsen said " They had great, old knowledge; they had somthing we had lost." I think that means that dogs can do things that human can't do, such as they got great hearing and smelling ability. That is why they are used for searching things. They are also used as a guard. They know who should and shouldn't  attack. They can distinguish the difference. I think people can learn a lot of things from animals. For example: they can learn from dogs. Compare to human, dogs are very easy satisfied, like their food. Most of them won't ask for eating hamburgers or french fries. They don't drink beverage or alcohol. They just eat normal dog's foot and meat. Also, dogs know how to live by itself. You can see that the homeless dogs, they don't live in a comfortable house, they live in street, but they can still live very well. First, they can go look through the garbge can, they eat the things in it. Second, they can sleep every where they want, it can be in a box, in the park, or even on a rock. Third, they know how to find their companies. When a group of dogs is formed, they will go search for food and water together. That is why dogs are not easy to die even though they are homeless. I got three dogs in my house. Even though they are all very silly and stupid, they are nice pets. What I learn from my pets is that when someone is treating you nice, you should pay back.   

Describe a Place You Know

The place I am very familiar is my bedroom. My bedroom is not very big but not small either. The room is kind of messy. The materials and tools are put in radom places, the books are not straight, and my clothes are every where around the room. There are 1 computer, 2 desks, and 2 chairs. Green curtain and square window can be seen in my room, and there are two tubs of plants outside the window. Sometimes, you can hear the sound of wind, Ohh-Ohh. It is very loud and creepy. It is like the wind was infuriated. When it is morning, you can hear the sound of swallow very clearly. You can, because there is a nest sticks on the outside wall. The mother is feeding the children, and the children are shouting for the food. My room's smell always change. Sometime, my room was pretty stinky, because my bed didn't wash for a very long time. Sometime, my room smelt ok, because my bed was washed. The floor of my bedroom is pretty smooth. It is very easy to walk, but you have to watch out the season. During winter, the floor will be cold like a ice cube. During summer, the floor will be hot like sun. So wear a pair of shoes during winter, and walk with your peer feet during summer.

The Setting of "In Trouble"

The setting tell the readers that it is freezing over there. It says that your thoart will start bleeding,and  your toes will be frozen. There are no animals under this cold climate, even the animal with very much fur. The snows cover every matter in this world. The only thing you can see is the snow,  the only sound you can hear is the wind. The setting helps the reader knows that the place is freezing. The readers can infer that there is not gonna be many people live there, cause it is too cold over there. Or the story happens during winter time. Mood can be built from the setting. From the words and setence, reader can understand is this story happy, funny, sad, or scary. For the setting in "In Trouble", I feel it's kind of creepy. It makes us wonder where is this freezing, cold place. The coldness of the setting in "In Trouble" is terrifying. What place can make somebody's thoart start bleeding?   

The Chinese Cinderella Summary

The main character in the novel is Wu Mie. Her english name is Adeline. She was born in a rich family of China during the War World II. She got 1 elder sister, 3 elder brother, and 1 younger brother and sister (kids from Niang)od grades in school, so that in the furture, they could leave this house, and built their own house;.  Her mom died from given birth to her, and that caused the other family members hate Adeline. The only perosn who was treating Adeline nice was Adeline's aunt, aunt Baba. She encouraged her to study hard and get go lived without cruel Niang and mean father when she grown up. Niang was Adeline's step mother. Niang treated cruel to all the kids in the family that was not her child. Big Sister, the three elder brothers, and Adeline didn't like Niang. But right now, Big Sister had turned to the "other" side.  Adeline liked school. Adeline liked school, because she got many friends there. Her best friend was Wu Mei Chu. Adeline was even elected to become the president of their class, thanks for Wu Mei Chu. Adeline got good score at school. She got straight A except for art and PE. Niang didn't allow any kids in the family to go to other people's house. However, Adeline had gone to Wu Mei Chu's house for celebrating Wu Mei Chu's birthday. Niang was very pissed after she found out. She thought that was all because of her aunt. So now she decides to seperate them.

The Influence of Setting

Setting can influence the story a lot. For examples, if the story takes place at a ancient palace. We can predict the story will be about a prince, ministers, or a king. It won't be about a business man, police officer, or a retired boxer. The setting can help us guess who and where are the characters. Discriptive informations can help the reader make a guess about the story. For example, the smoke was dark, the smell was bad, the palace had been ruined, the new owner of the palace laughed sonorously.  From the information, we can predict that the palace had been ruined and conquered by somebody else. Events and settings of the story have to be matched. Otherwise, the story will be weird. For example: an elephant is eating his lunch, and the place takes at the beach party. Why will an elephant be in a beach party? So we can see that the event and the setting are unmatched, that makes the story become strange. Sometimes, writer makes the character and the setting unmatched, in order to produce a cool and unique way. For example: a police man from the modern world gone back to ancient China to capture a criminal. That is like time travel, which makes the story become very intresting, and makes the readers become curious about it.

Setting

One of the setting that made me a great impression was the traditional market. I went there with my gradpa and sister duing the weekend in Taipai. The place was very noisy. I heard the people shouted "Come here! Only cost 10 NT each! Come here!" Also, some taiwanese (台語) were spoken, and I didn't understand. I heard people dealing money, conversing, and swearing. It was kind of unpleasant.
I saw people making food in the traditional market. The meat seller was cutting pork or beef into several pieces, pack all the pieces into a box, and then put the box into the plastic bag. I saw the shops that were selling fruit, meat, vegetable, fast food, drinks, and also hot dogs. There were many people, and it was very crowdy. If you didn't follow your family or partner close enough, you would get lost. I smelt something bad. It was like the smell of chicken or pee. Well, I could be wrong, but that was what I felt. The flavor just went directly into my nose, and I felt sick after that. I held my breath soon. I thought that I just didn't get use to shop in the traditional market, because the other people look natural and fine. Traditional market is a market with long history. It isn't like cosco or sogo. I will suggest you to go there.
 

What I Like About This Class

Even though, there are somethings that need to be improved in grade 8 english class, there are many good things in garde 8 english class also. For instance: the blog entry. I think the blog entry is a pretty good idea, because most students in PAS, including me, are native chinese speaker. Our english isn't very good comparing to real American. That is why we need extra practices, we need to practice writing and speaking to improve our grammer and vocabulary skill. Another good thing about grade 8 english is the quiz on every Thursday. The quiz tested the meaning and the example of the words. That helps us to understand the structure of the words and some vocabularies, which is very useful on learning english. The online homework assignments have good and bad points. I have already told about the bad points in last entry, What I Don't Like About This Class. The online homework assignments are good, because they can help students to learn how to use technology. Before I been to this class, I didn't even know how to use Wikispace and Blog. Learning how to use technology can help people solve some problems easier. Last thing, the english teacher is not boring. He is very humorous and amusing. He spoke confidently and loud enough during the class, which is very significant. I will like my english teacher to keep up the good work. 

What I don't like about this class

Well, I think grade 8 english is actually a fine class, cause I didn't gain very much pressure from this class. However, grade 8 english class can still have some improvement. For example: the quiz on Thursday. I think it is good to have quiz on every Thursday, but some questions can be added into the quiz paper like the definition of the example. Some time students just memorized the words and didn't really understand the meaning. That case, students won't be able to know how to use the words. Also, Mr.McCool can make some extra credit quetsions for the students. That way, not only students can have better grades, they will also learn more things. Mr.McCool don't have to spend almost a whole peroid to talk about formatting. Students can ask teacher for help after school if they have question on their homework assignment. I think the reading quizs and vocabularies can change into writing on paper, cause some people don't actually read the book. They just copy their answers from the others through wikispace. Because all students did their homework on wikispace, they can just see each others answers from that! That is all what I want to tell Mr.McCool about grade 8 english class. Thank you very much!

Frietche v Jaclson

In the poem "Barbara Frietchie", there are two main characters. One is the old lady, Barbara Frietchie; Other person is the Confederate General, Stonewall Jackson. Barbara Frietchie showed her bravery in the poem, she raised the Union flag up in the air, while the Confederate troop was marching. The Confederate soldiers shot down the staff, but Barbara Frietche quickly snatched the flag. He said "Shoot, if you must, this old gray head, but spare your country's flag." From the word she said to the soldiers, we could see she wasn't shock at what the soldiers did. Also, we could see the loyalty to her country of Barbara Frietche. She didn't succumbed to her enemies. She believed that she was doing the right thing. Over all, we can know that Barbara Frietchie is brave and loyal. Another main character in the peom is Stonewall Jackson. While their troop was marching through the town, he heard what Barbara Frietchie said to him. He felt guilty and shame about it. Then he ordered all the soldiers not to touch the old lady, kept marching. From the action he did, we could see that he respect his enemy. He knew that it would be pretty cruel to just kill a old lady, because she showed their country flag. Over all, Stonewall Jackson is a respectful and clever general.
I think both characters in this poem are hero. They did the right thing! 

Do the Right Thing

     The definition of a hero is a person who does the right thing even though he or she might have to act alone. I think this definition can apply to Harriet Tubman and Barbara Frietechie. Harriet Tubman had gone back to his home to save the slaves even though he was already a free woman. Although nobody were willing to go with Harriet Tubman to save the slaves, Harriet Tubman didn't change her decision. She decided to bring the slaves to Canada, the promised land at that time. Barbara Fritechie was also hero. He raised the flag of Union right in front of the Confederate army during the American Civil war. That was a very brave deed. No one in the town dared to raise the flag even they were the union. Stonewall Jackson could also call as a hero. He stop his soldiers from shooting the old lady. He knew that she was doing the right thing, so that she shouldn't be shot. Stonewall Jackson was a wise general. He could understand people.
     I think I have done more right things than the wrong things in the past. One right thing I did in the past was I respected everyone. I didn't tease or mock somebody when they made simple mistake. I mean everyone make mistakes, don't be so cruel. When somebody didn't know about something, I wouldn't say that they are dumb or stupid. Even I said that was just kidding, not serious. I wouldn't make joke that hurts people's feeling, cause that is what jerks always did to the others.

Standing up for Your Beliefs

     Many heroes stood up for their belief. For examples Abraham Lincoln and Sun Yat Sen. Abraham Linclon was the 16th president of the United States.. When he saw the slaves were whiped by their white owner. He felt sad and angry. He was sad for the slaves. they got treated very badly for many centuries in Britain. He was very angry about the slavery. He believed that all people on earth were born in equal. There shouldn't be someone ruling, or control them. He stood up for the slaves, said that they should end the slavery after he became the president of the United State.
    Sun Yat Sen is the founding father of Republic of China. He believed that the only way to make a country strong was to bring democracy for the country. He thinks that China was too weak. That was why they got under estimated by the foreigner. He stood up and fought against the Chin dynasty. China had finally walked into the door of democracy after his revolution.
   My belief is that all people need to go to school until they are 18 years old. No matter you are rich or poor. They have the right, because they need to know the basic knowledge to live in this world. Also, maybe the person is a very smart person. He could have done a great achievement for the country. He's achievement should be ruined just because he is poor.  
  
 

Cinderella Story

     Many people are like Cinderella. They were very poor at the beginning, then they became very successful at the ending. Like Wang ung Chin. He born in 1917 and died in 2008 or 2009 ( I forgot). Before that he was one of the richest bussiness man of Taiwan. He was extremely rich. He had his own model company. Before his company was established, he was a poor guy. His edjucational background wasn't very high. He didn't go to middle school after he graduated from elementry school. He formed a rice shop by borrowed 2000000 japaneses coin from his father. Soon, his business career started thriving and developing. More and more his shop were built in Taiwan. Eventually, he had his own rice factory and model company. Wang ung Chin could have this kind of success in his life, because he got a lot of bussiness ideas. Also, he put a lot of effort into his job. From this story, we can see the importance of deligence. 
     This Cinderella story didn't really occur in my life before, cause I have never been terrible on something and then became very good. My grades didn't have a huge change before. It was constant. I hope my popularity can be like the Cinderella Stroy. I wanted to be more popular in school.

Hero Biography

Well, I think there are many heros in this world, because many people in this world has courage, selfeness, and honesty. My top choice of hero will be the founding father of Republic of China, Sun Yat-Sen.
Sun Yat-Sen was born at Guangdong in 1866, and dead in1925. He was a doctor, modern revolutionist, and the first president of the Republic of China. That is why we call him our founding father. During Sun Yat-Sen time, China was still in Ching dynasty. He saw how rotten and turbulent the China was, and he thought very bad for that. While he was studing in Hawaii, he saw how good United State was. The people in United State helped each other, they have a better edjucation, people have more freedom, and there were no emperor or empire in United State, only president. After he saw the comparasion between China and United State, he decided to bring democracy to China.
Sun Yat-Sen revolution track was very tough. He have started 10 revolts before, and all of them had failed. Finally, in his 11th revolt, he finally succeeded. That was on Octoer 10, 1911. I think Sun Yat-Sen is a hero, because he was trying to save the people of China. He wanted to bring freedom and justice for them. He wanted China to be like United States. Also, He didn't fall back. Even though he failed 10 times, he still didn't give up. I think Sun Yat-Sen is a hero for every person of Republic of China.

What is a hero?

The definition of hero is an illustrious man, supposed to be exalted, after death, to a place among the gods; a demigod, as Hercules. Well, I think that is correct but not totally. I think heros are the people who are willing to save or sacrafice for the other people without any benefit from him or herself. They will all share the quality of courage, honesty, selflessness, and determination. I think the most important charateristic of being a hero are courage and selfessness. Hero needs to have the courage to fight for the others. Like when you see a little poor puppy got chased by a crowd wild furious dogs, you need courage. When you see a person is cheating on test, you need courage to charge him. Hero shouldn't be selfish, otherwise that will be like a jerk, that is like hire somebody to do some specific job for him. We don't call that hero. Harriet Tubman is a great example for hero. He ran back to save the slave even though he was already free. He got the courage to help the slaves, and he is selfessness. He fought justice for the slaves, and that is a hero. Hero is actually not that hard to be. Just remember that don't do bad things to the other people, and try to help the people that needs help. That is what I think!

Leaving Everything Behind

During the Qin dynasty of Shi Huangi, china was turbulent. Shi Huangi was a tyrant. He killed the people who disobeyed him, and the book that he thought was useless.He called tons of tons of workers to work for his construction, without paying money (cause he was the emperor). The most splendid and famous building that he called the workers to build is the Great Wall. Someone said that if you look at the earth from space, the most apparant construction will be the Great Wall. From that, we can understand how enormous the Great Wall is. Shi Huangi built the Great Wall, because he needed it to help him defend the Huns in the north. Most workers of the Great Wall were the civilians. They were called by the soldiers, and they have to go. They couldn't stay with their family, or he and his family would be all killed. As they were called up to work on the Great Wall, they had a very big chance of wouldn't see them any more. Even though you see them, it will probably be about 30 or 40 years after. You would have to work in a big summer day, you couldn't have any water, and you were not allow to rest. If you are lazy, the soldier would whip you. A lot of workers of the Great Wall were died while they were working, cause they were exhausted. They have never seen their family again after they got called up to build the Great Wall. 
The workers and the slaves have experienced the similiar experience. But there were some little differences between them. Slaves got some choice, even though is very slight. The workers got exatcly no choice. Slaves were easier to run away, but the workers were impossible to run away, because the soldiers were right next behind them

The Promise Land

Moses was a man got banished by the ancient Egypt. God had told Moses that he would lead the Hebrews to the promise land. During that time, Hebrews were used as slaves in ancient Egypt. The Egypitain treated them harshly. Moses went back to the Egypt to asked pharoah to free the hebrews. At first, the pharoah didn't agree to free them. But after the ten plagues that were given by god, the pharoah agreed to free the hebrews. After that, Moses started leading the Hebrews to the promised land.
  Harriet Tubman and Moses had a lot of similarities. First, both of them came back to free the other people when they were already their free. They both risk their life for saving the slaves. Sexond, they both lead their people to the promised land. For Moses, the promised land was the Jaruselum. For Harriet Tubman, the promised land was Canada. Even they were in different places, they both have the freedom that every slaves anxious about. I think the biggest similarties between Moses and Harriet Tubman is their mind. They both wanted to save the slaves from the unjustice. They were helping the people that sholud be helped.

Why Risks Your Life?

Harriet Tubman, a woman who was already free, was willing to risk her life to lead other people to freedom, because she thought that was the right thing to do. She thought that every person borned the same, there shouldn't be someone rule someone else. Why did those people couldn't be free? Did they do someone terribily wrong before? Why couldn't they just be like a normal person? I think that was what Harriet Tubman thought. She was fighting the unjustice. She rather die than have to save the people who isn't free.
  Sometimes, people will risk their life to save something that means very important to him or her. For example: Harriet Tubman. Freedom was very important for her. I think she knows the feeling of being limited and stricted. She wanted the other people to be like her, a free person. There are some other examples for risking life for something. Like soldiers. They fight for their country, they protect it. For soldier, their country is just like their mother. It gives them strength and power. They love their country. It is not hard for them to risk their life to protect the country. They rather die than protect it.

For The Sake of the Freedom

  Over many centuies, people had endured all kinds of pain to be free. For example: Taiwan. In 1895, China had a battle with Japan. At that period, it was Ching dynasty in China. The Ching dynasty was very weak at that time, and Japan was strong. Because of that, China got defeated by Japan very quickly. China was force to cede Taiwan to Japan after that battle ( Taiwan was one of China's province at that time).
  Japan soon started sending troops to Taiwan. The taiwanese didn't want to be ruled by Japan, so they started to defend their own land. A lot of taiwanese tribes had gathered together, they had only one purpose,and that was cast the japanese away. There were Hakka people, Aboriginal, and the Mi Na
people. Even though the taiwanese fought bravely, because their weapons were poorer than the weapon that japanese soldiers used, Taiwan still got took over by Japan in 1895.
  After Japan took over Taiwan, they started to rule the taiwanese. They treated taiwanese differently than the original japanese. Taiwanese couldn't get very high level job even they were smarter or better than the japanese. They gave taiwanese students worse education than the japanese students. Also, they forced taiwanese to do a lot of work that they didn't want to do, like constructions, fought, or sexial entertainment.
  Even though, it was such a bad condition for taiwanese, the taiwanese didn't give up. They still have many revolts that againt the japanese. They used all of their strength, just to try to cast away the japanese back to their land. They believed they would get freedom someday.
   

What happens?

  Billy stared at the landlady, thinking about what landlady had said to him. " Only you, what was that? How could only have two guests have been here for so many years? " Billy felt creepy and scared a bit when he heard that." I think I'll just go back to my room and ready to sleep, thanks for the tea. " said politely Billy. "Your welcome, my dear. Have a good night!" said the Landlady.
  Billy started walking back to his room. While he was walking back to his room, he felt sleepier and sleepier. He was getting unbalanced so he couldn't stand still. "What is going on with me?" thought queerly Billy. Sunddenly, he thought about what his chemistry teacher in middle school had told him about bittery almond in tea. "Oh god, not that old lady!"said Billy. Soon after he said that, he was lying on the floor.
  The landlady looked at Billy's body. It was quite, still, and peaceful. She walked toward Billy, and touched his face with her cold hand. "It will be alright, Mr.Weaver." said evilly the landlay. " It is just going to be OK." Landlady dragged Billy toward the forth floor.

Stuffed Pets

When the landlady says" I stuffed all my little pets myself when they pass away," I knew that something bad would happen to Billy. What kind of people would stuffed their animal when they were died? Most people would burn them or buried them, and I think that was better for the animal too. Who will stuff them? This action had shown the landlady's terror. It suggested that Billy would get killed by the landlady. Landlady might preserve or stuff him after he is dead. She would put him in the forth floor with Mr.Mulhond and Mr.Temple. Billy might have to stay here with his two companies in the forth floor of the bed and breakfast forever! That will be a tragerdy for Billy. After a couple more years, mabye more preserved human will join their team( the people who got preserved or stuffed by landlady). I think the literary device of The Landlady is foreshadowing, giving hints and clues about what will happen to Billy. In the story, it has given some information about the landlady personality, where the previous guest of bed and breakfast were, and also the habit of landlady. This are all the clues for this story.

The Landlady's Perfect Guest

  The landlady liked the guest who were very young, tall, and handsome. In the book, the landlady said a lot of information about Mr.Temple and Mr.Mulholland. For Mr.Mulholland,  she said that he was seventeen just like Billy. He's a little bit shorter than Billy, and his teeth weren't so white. For Mr.Temple, she said that he was 28 years old, and his skin was like baby's. All words she said about them were about their look, age, and height.  Also, there were no ladies in this boarding house before except for the landlady herself. Isn't that kind of strange? What kind of bed and breakfast doesn't have any female guest? Only males!
  I think that Billy will be murdered by the creepy landlady, and the landlady will preserve his body just like the duchshund and parrot in the story. His soul will not be free. He has to stay here!
   

The Landlady-Prediction

The first thing of the boarding house that makes me thinks its unusual is that Billy coudln't walk away from the boarding house. When he thought that pub was a better place to stay tonight and he was walking away from the boarding house, he coudln't move. He got hypotize by the boarding house. The boarding house has hypotize Billy to walk towards the boarding house and rang the bell. Billy couldn't control his action. That was extrodinary! Also, when Billy rang the bell, the landlady comes out from the house at the same moment! It's like the old lady knew he would be here, and she was waiting for him. That is kind of creepy! There were no people in the boarding house except for landlady and Billy. That makes the boarding house more like a ghost house. If I were Billy, I wouldn't live in that boarding house. Even I got hypotize by the boarding house and I went inside the the building. I would turn my head, and run immidiately after that, cuase that is just terrified. I think Billy will get killed, because the landlady act weird, and weird in a scary way. The landlady may have taken aways Billy's sour. That is just painful! Anyway, I felt pretty sorry for Billy.

Bed and Breakfast

If I arrive to a new town, and I need a place to stay. I see a sign in a window that says, "Bed and Breakfast". There are yellow flowers in a vase and a green curtains. I look inside, and I will expect to see two old men. Two men will be playing poker cards. One person is losing the game, and the other person is winning the game. I will also expect to see a cat lieing on the rug. It will be either rolling on the rug or playing the hair bulb that his master had given it. There will also have some tables and chairs in the house. The structure of the table will be strong and tight and it will be brown. The table will be very big, and some dust are cover on it. The chairs will be in a normal size. The base of the chair is soft and comfortable, but it looks very old and fergile. I expect to see a stage in that building. The stage will be use as the counter, the place to get money from the customer. The  recieving money machine on the stage will be gray, and a dead roaches is lieing on it.

“Broken Chain,” Thinking Critically

The quickwrite's idea and the feeling of Alfonso's are pretty much the same. It has talked about he doesn't like what he looks now and he wants to change and he wants to be tough. Also, the quickwrite has mentioned about the hairstye, the teeth, his smile, and so do the book. But I think Alfonso's feelings are more detailed  than the quickwrite. In the quickwrite, it didn't put so much informations. The quickwrite is just like an overview of what Alfonso's problems and his solutions for his problems. Alfonso actually feels more than the information that. For example: hair style. In the quickwrite, it only says that Alfonso start studing hair style, he wants to make his hair look cool, but he thinks that his mom won't go for it. Alfonso's actual feeling is more than that. Alfonso liked the way Prince looked-and the bass player from Los Lobos. Alfonso thought he would look cool with his hair razored into a V in the back and streaked purple. But he knew that he mom won't go for it. And his father would sit in his chair after work, sullen as a toad, and call him sissy. That is Alfonso's whole feeling. So we can see that Alfonso's feelings are much more detailed than the quickwrite. Alfonso's feeling and behavior seem pretty realistic for me, because it makes many realistic examples and it can really happen.

Advice Letter

Dear Adviser
    I am Alfonso. I have a serious problem, and I really need your help. I don't look good, I am ugly! My teeth aren't in order, and my smile doesn't look good, and my hairstyle isn't cool at all! Also, I think I am not tough enough, I think I am wimp. I have got some ideas to make myself look more handsome and tougher. From now on, I have started to push my teeth a hour every single day. I am trying to push them back to the right position. But the teeth just still stay there, and wasn't moved at all. I started to study hair style. I want to make a new hair style to make myself look cool, but my afraid my mom won't go for it. Also, I started to practice my smile. I smile about a thousand times just to improve my smile. But I don't think there is any improvements on my smile. I started to train myself, I've done many push ups and sit ups a couple weeks ago. I even punch myself, just to make myself tougher than I was. Do you think this kind of training can help me become tough and strong? If you have any advice for me, just tell me. I will be love hear it.

Broken Chain: critical thinking

  Alfonso's feeling have many similarties compare with girls. For example: he really cares about his looking and what other people thinks about him. Alfonso has spent a lot of time on making himself look good. He study hair style, push his teeth, do pushups, and also punch himself to practice his endurance. I think a little bit of concerning about your looking is ok, but not too over. Like what Alfonso did, I think that is too much. I think you should do something more valueable instead of wasting time on pushing your teeth and smiling to the mirror. You can go out and play with your friends, read some books, or go the gym.
  Girls and Boys have a lot of similarties, but they also have a lot of differences. Like boys want to be handsome, but girls want to be beatiful. In today's english class, we have discussed about girls and boys. Girls in our class think that a handsome man should be tall, beatiful nose, six petal, blond hair, and also big eyes. Boys in our class think that a handsome man should be tall, natural hair, and normal size eyes. From the discussion in english class, we can see the different feeling between boys and girls.
  I don't really care a lot about my looking and popularity. I won't push my teeth, do fifty times pushup, punch yourself, or smile to the mirror. The things I care more are my homework, watching TV and play computer, and play chess with my eighbor friend. Well, different people have different feeling and habits.
 

Popularity v Intelligence

If you are popular, you will have many friends. Many people will like you. They will want to play and hang out with you, which is good for you. But some times when you are popular, some people will be jealous of you. They may want to have a chance to bust you, or make you embarrassed. If you are smart,  you won't be tricked or being busted. You may have found someway to fit into the popular group, and that will make you popular, whcih is good for you. But in some other ways, intelligence can also hurt you! Cause mabye you are too smart, you think some really simple thing into a complicated thing. The people will start thinking that you are annoying and weird. That can also affect your popularity.
  If I have to choose to be the most popular or the smartest student in school, I'll choose to be the smartest students. I choose the that,  because I think intelligence is more usefuler than popularity. Popularity can sometimes make you into trouble, but intelligence can help you avoid from the trouble.
  Some people will try to fit into the popular group, and some of them will need to do sacrafices in order to fit in. Like mabye you have to do their homework, beat up the people they don't like, or give them gifts. 
  Unusual can be good and bad. For example: everyone in your class hate chess, except for you, that makes you unuaul. Your classmates may think that you are not cooperative, and they may dislike you. That is an example of what is bad being unusual. There is also something good of being unusual. Like if everyone in your class don't write homework, except for you. That proves that you are the best student in your class. If everyone in your class fail on the test, except for you. That proves that you are the smartest person in your class.

Thirteen and Fourteen Years Old

  I think most the thirteen and fourteen years-olds kids will either feel satisfied or inferior to themselves. They are growing up, their mind has changed. They will start worry about their look, smells, and every action they made. Like some of the popular students in middle school of America. Because of their popularity, they start becoming arrogant. They start scolding and mocking the other kids, some of them may beat the other students. I think that is very bad, because that kind of people are just like tyrants. Tyrants do things that make people unhappy and angry, and that produced enemies. So althougth that kind of people may be popular in school, but they also had many enemies. I think there is another kind of people at this age, this kind of people are very inferior. That means they think they are not good. They may think about some ideas like I'm not pretty enough, I'm stupid, or I'm fat. Well, a little bit of concerning yourself is ok, but not over. Sometimes when you ask more,  you will lose more ( Really!). So don't be too inferior, that may hurt you.
  I think the best students at age thirteen and fourteen should just act normal. Don't try to act cool or bully the others. Just be like an indifferent students, make some friends, and don't make any trouble.
