Final Exam

I think I won't get a good score on my final, because I have a feeling that I will miss many question on the multiplye choices just like the past test. This happens to me sometimes, because sometimes I don't read enough times and when I don't read enough times, I can't memorize the story very detailed. I worry most about question 11 and the last question. I worry about them, because if you have one of them wrong, you can get them all wrong. I choose ballad for the question 11, and so as on the last question. I wrote a lot of sentences on the last questions, and I don't think I can get full credit on that questions, cause I think I don't have enough details from the story to support my answer. I am most confident on the first essay question, which is the question about how to read a poem. That question is pretty easy for everyone, cause all you do is write down what happen and how you read the poem. I can get higher score by reading more, asking questions, and listen to the teacher. Well, I hope I don't miss too many questions on the mutuplye choices.

Heroism Today

I don't really think of many heros today. Well, mabye there are, but I just don't know. The hero in the old times that I know are George Washington, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Sun-Yat-Sen, Abraham Lincoln, and Albert Einstein. Heros in the modern world that I can think of are Obama and Ma-in-jiu. I choose Obama as a hero, because he is trying to end the war in Iraque and Afganastan, unlike George Bush. Also, the economy of United States is getting better. I choose Ma-in-jiu as a hero, because he makes Taiwanese richer compare the time when chen-sui-bien was the president. Also, he brought peace to both Taiwan and mainland China, instead of war condition. I don't think heriosm is dead yet, because it is not too hard to be a hero. For example: people can be a hero just by cleaning you room or helping an old person to pass the road. Anyway, even thougth there arn't as many heros today, but there are still some heros that we can't see.

True or False

Personally, I think it is ok for people to lie sometimes. It is ok to lie for art work or lirature pieces if that lie does something useful. Sometimes, people need to lie in order to help people, like doctor. Doctor will sometimes meet insane or maniac people, people that think their life is miserable and meaningless, so they want to die. Doctor need to say something good, even though it is not true, to help those people. Otherwise, the population of suicide will just increase rapidly. It is sometimes ok to lie about the lirature pieces, because the writers need to make the stories as interested as possible. That way, more people will like to read, and more people will be edjucated. Even though the stories in the book are not true, the stories have done something useful. Basically, I think it is necessary to lie. Even though lieing is not a good thing, lieing can be helpful sometimes. So be smart, lie when you need to lie! It is not a shameful deed! Many people lie too, like lawyers, doctors, and even president.

Independent Reading Project Reflection

This project totally took me about two days. I don't think I put a lot of effort into this project. Basically what I did for this project is I did an overview for the book, I changed the words from the report a bit, and I add on pictures. I put in 8 pictures total into my poster. Even though I hae been trying to decorate the poster, I think I can still have improvements. For example: I can draw some hammer or pickax to decorate the poster. I think I can do better than what I just did, I can put in more effort. I am not very sure what have I learn through making this project. Well, it is good for me to read a book, and practice making a poster. I learn that don't make wish radomly from reading my book, because later in the book, Otter regrets that he make the wish. Also, I learn that try to become independent. Because your parents won't take care of you. I learn that being a railroad workers are very tough and strenous, their living places are dirty and bad. So don't complain too much, appreciate what you have.

My Most and Least Favorite

I like "The Outsiders" and "Diary of Anne Frank". The least favorites are "The Westing Game" and "The Hatchet". I like"The Outsiders", because there are many actions, and the storyline isvery interesting. Actions in the book such as rumble, escaping, coming back are all very interesting. Also, the characters in the book are all very cool but not dumb, like Ponyboy, Dally......I like "Diary of Anne Frank", because it is an real incident that happened in the modern history. Also, I can learn many things from it. I can feel the pain of being a jewish at that time. I don't like "The Hatchet", because it is just talking about natural, and those things that I am not interested. Also, it is very unrealistic. How can a thirteen years old boy live in the wilderness with nothing two months. I think "The Westing Game" is a very boring book, also it is very creepy. The only thing that they talk about is game, game and game. It is freaky, because they don't even know what kind of game they are playing.

My Most and Least Favorite

I like "The Outsiders" and the "Diary of Anne Frank". I like them, because I think the stories are very interesting, and there are some actions in these novel. For example in Outsiders, you can see the action of Socs fighting Greasers, also the rumble was very cool. In "The Diary of Anne Frank", I can feel the pain of Anne stayed in her tiny room, and she needs to live secretly, or else she will be killed. These two novels are both very cool. The novels I like th least are"The Westing Game" and "The Hatchet". For "Westing Game", Well, I think it is too complex, and I don't really learn anything from that book. Also, it kind of scares me. How can an old man think of such a creepy, complex, and strange game? The story seems sort of implausible. For the "Hatchet", I think it is sort of boring just keeps on telling what happen to Brian in the Canadian Wilderness. All he does is just making food, getting water, making weapons...not many fun things, plus I don't learn things from that novel also. I don't get why is the book trying to tell us, so I don't really like it.

The Epic Hero

Personally, I think the two heros that we have read in the book are pretty similar. First, they both have the same duties, which is save something from bad. For Beowulf, he was trying to save his people by killing the monsters that havedone destructions. For Casie, he tried to save his team from losing to winning. Second, both of them are sort of cocky and arrogant. For Beowulf, he asked his king not to help him, and he was fighting the monster with bare hands and no cloth, which he chose to do that. How can a man fight a monster with no protections at all and nobody helps? Impossible! For Casie, he didn't even swing the bat when the ball passes through him. Also, after he got strikes, he still show the sort of comfortable, self love expression, which justmakes people thinks that he is arrogant. The characteristic of an epic hero is the hero is willing to fight for the other people or group, just like Beowulf and Casie. Even though they fight for the others, doesn't mean that they are good people. So don't think that all epic heros are great or real.

Experience

I broke the mirror with my blade.
I wrote the words with my moving hand.
I walk with my moving feet.
I slap the mosquitos.
I lie on the bed, and put my head onto the pillow.
I wash my hands by rubbing, then put and pour them with soup.
I kick my self with the back of my foot.
I rub my hands intensively.
I smell the sweat with my nose.
I punch the door with my fist.
I jump into the air.
I spin my pen with my fingers.
I drew a painting.
I grab the tissue, and take it out.
I taste the bread part of hamburger.

Free Write

Today is May 5, 2011. I woke up very late today, I woke up at 7:26, so I was pretty rush. I felt very tired when I went to school today. At the first class, we have math. Mrs.Sue gave us 35 more minutes to continue on the test that we took two days ago. The second class is wordly wise. During wordly, I was just basically studying the vocabularies and the suffix that Mr.McCool would test us on. The third class is english. We first took the quiz, I got 18.5/20, which is ok for me. Then he gave us the free write, that I why I wrote all these things here. The last class before the lunch is Life science. Our teacher just gave us a worksheet to work on, and most of the answers on that sheet was in the powerpoint, but I didn't bring my labtop, so I have to do it as my homework. During the 10 events for history class, we won 2 points, which is third place. We ate lunch very late today, but the food is very good, so I didn't really mind. After that I went to PE club. What I did over there was just playing basketball with other grade students, it was very tired but fun!

Elements of Poetry

The elements of poetry are characters, plot, rhyme, and setting. I think there are more elements that consist the poetry, but I can only think of four so far. Firstable, all poetry have characters in the poem. Poetry is very similar to normal fiction, it is also telling story. The only difference between them is poem written in a more artistic way. The second element is plot. Well, like fiction, poetry has a basic idea of what it is about. Overall, poetry has a basic concept or idea of what it is talking about. You have to have a plot, otherwise you will just be talking nosense, and no one will listen. The third elements is call rhyme. I bet many people are familiar with rhyme, there are many rhyme in a song, which is why we say that poetry is just like song, but they split into two different directions. The examples of rhyme are bad and bat. For example: Ken is acting bad. He destroy things with bat. The last element is setting. As you all know, every writing should have a setting, or else we don't call it writing.

2011年4月14日 星期四

What Does Poetry Do

The biggest thing that poetry do is express a story in rhyme, poetry makes the story sounds like a song. Poems are express in many lines, and every line is usually short and clear. Normal writing will usually just be a bunch of setences that form a paragraph, and many paragraphs form a article or essay. I think the biggest difference between poetry and original writing is poetry doesn't require grammer knowledge, but writing does. Also, you can invent your own words when you are writing poetry, but when you are writing an essay, you have to follow the rules of grammer and spelling. That is why poetries are considered as art, and the people who writes good poem are considered as one kind of artist. I think poetry express more feelings, and it is more able to help the reader to sense about the setting and plot. However, I think people are easier to write essay than poem. There are still many people writing poem in the modern world, but way less than before. Many book writers know how to write good poem.

Spring Break

During the 10 days spring break, I did many different things that I wouldn't be able to do when I go to school. I got to be able to sleep at 12:00 am and wake up at 9:00 am, which was impossible before. I got to spend 3 hours on playing video games, which I know is very bad for my eyes, espicially that I have terrible vision. Also, I didn't need to do the things that I usually did. For examples: study and do homework. Even though it was very fun for me to do all these wasting time activities, I didn't spend my whole day on them. I would still have to do my basic chores, like walking dogs and throw the trash bags. I was sick this spring break, I kept on sneezing, and my throat is intensively dry. Luckily, after a couple days of healing, I got much better. I went to Pindong and Taipai this spring break. I went to see all my pass away ancestor in Pindong, cause at the old times, my family was living in Pingdong. I went to Taipai to visit my pass away grandpa and grandma, also, we visit our relatives. At the last day of the spring break, I bought some english books. I think they are interesting and appropriate for me.

Exaggeration

People use exaggerations to show how intensive or how great something is. From example some people will sometimes say "I am so hungry that I can eat a cow within a minute." or mabye "He is fast like a wind". From the above two examples, we all know that they are impossible. It is impossible for a human been to finish a cow within 60 seconds, Well, mabye they can if the cow is super small. Even the expression is not possible, people say that to show how hungry the person is. This is just an expression, there is no literally meaning. Another expressions talks about fast is even more impossible. How can a human be fast like a wind? The sentence is just trying to show how fast the person is. I heard people saying exaggerations pretty often. For example, I hear people say "I will tear you into pieces if you don't do that!" Well, of course they won't tear the other person into pieces, but the person will become very angry if the other person doesn't does certain thing. Sometimes I will say "I will die!". I won't die, but it just shows that I am very nervous.

Personal Reflection

If I have to evaluate myself, I will divide my evaluation into participation, behavior, effort, efficiency, and assignment. On participation part, I will give 6 to myself (total 10). The reason I give 6 is that I usually don't fall a sleep in class, most of the times I listen to what the teachers say. However, I don't raise my hand very often, so I give myself a passing grade 6, which still has a lot of improvements need to make. On behavior part, I will give myself an 8. I give 8, because I respect every teachers, and most of the times I do work. That is a not bad grade. On effort, I will give myself a 7. I give myself 7, because most of the times I put effort into every assignment. Sometimes I may just become lazy, and copy other person's homework (rare). 7 is a OK grade. On the efficiency part, I will give myself 6. Well, I say this, because sometimes I got distracted by video games or something when I was doing my homework, and that slow down the speed of doing homework. For the assignment part, I will give myself 8. I think I have completed most of my work, and most of them are not too bad. The total grade is 35 out of 50, which is a OK grade for me. Of course, I still need to improve myself.

Style

The style that Toni Cade Bambara uses in the story "Raymond's Run" are situational irony and dramatic irony. I say the story is a situational irony, because at the end of the story. Squeaky and Gretchen both shows respect to each other, which is kind of not what I have expected. From the previous paragraph, the story has shown that Squeaky is an cocky and suacy little girl. She keeps on believing herself the fastest and the swiftest in the neighborhood. Also, she keeps on saying the people who are good bad. She thinks that they don't deserve it. From these characteristics of Squeaky, it is pretty hard to imagine that she will respect Gretchen after the race. I thought she will laugh at her, or do something that can embarass her. Another elements of style in the story "Raymond's Run" is the dramatic irony. Squeaky always think that she is the fastest, but we all know that is not true. Second, we all know that she say those bad things to Gretchen is all because she afraids that Gretchen will beat her in the race. She is just jealous and scared. However, Squeaky herself doesn't know.

Brainstorming a Poem

Jessie Liu is an important person in my life. She is my mom.
Tall, smart, caring, kind, hardworking, tender, quiet, generous, thoughtful, humble
Jessie has a long hair. She is tall, and has a normal facial looking.
Mom always wake me up for school.
She has no smell usually, sometimes people can smell shampoo from her.
Her skin is smooth and soft.
work, cook, clean, read, wash

Jessie Liu, my mom
Tall, smart, caring
kind, hardworking, tender
generous, thoughtful, humble
Long hair with normal looking
Wakes me up for school, call me down for dinner
Smell of nothing, sometimes shampoo
Smooth skin with softness
Work and clean every day
Cook and read every night
Wash our dirty cloths
And that is my dear mom

End game

The game that I orginally wrote about on the blog is very different that our group has presented today. The two game's similarities are they are both involved in killing and surviving. The player can both win the game by kill all the players in both games. Also, both of them have blocks that are for the players to walk. Both games are using dice to determine how many steps to go. The maxium players for the board game is 6 players, minimum 2 players. The difference of the game I plan before and the game that we actually design is that the way of killing people. In my board game, player kills people by hire assinator, and assinator will be able to level up. The game that my group has designed involve more finiding who is the killer, but not killing other players. The game that I designed is more similar to monopoly, because all players get 2000 dollars. However, the game that our group has designed is more similar to the clue game, cause the main idea is to find out who is the murderer, and race to the end. I am pretty satisfied with the game that my group had made. I think it is very colorful and interesting.

Slang

The slang that the modern teenagers use a lot are like wtf, wth, lol, 88, fxxx, and sxxx......Dialect is olny for a specific region of a people, but it can also be for a specific type of people. The slang examples that have just made for almost all the teens around the world. Well, most of the teens like to swear and curse, they say fxxx or sxxx when they face something unfavorable for them. Well, of course they all know that swearing is bad, so when they swear, they will try to change the word. Like when they say shxxx, they will say shoot instead. The old people will not understand what we are talking about when we are talking slang. Personally, I think it is very fun for people to have slang, because it is like a secret code that nobody understand except for some specific people. I think slang is very interesting, and people can try to say them.

Analogy

My analogy for this blog entry is doing spanish homework is like swimming in the lava. I say they are related, because both of them are very painful for me. When ever it is Sunday, I will complete all my homework that are due on Monday and Tuesday. However, I will always leave out spanish homework, I always do it on Monday 10pm or even later (that is why I didn't finish my spanish homework a lot of times). I don't know why I do that, it just feels so painful and tired to do these questions. Sometimes, Mr.Robertson told us to do some reading and answer questions homework. When I opened my text book, and turned to the page that I was assigned to read, it just feels like the world is upside down. Another thing that is very painful for me is swimming in lava. As you all know, lava is very hot. Honestly, you can't even swim in the lava, cause once you fall into lava, you're dead. After reading this entry, I believe people can understand how painful it is for me to do the spanish homeowrk.

Fighting Words

I have gotten into an arguement because of someone say bad things about my pets. I hate when people say something about the thing that they know nothing about, espicially when they are saying something bad about it. Before they talk about that thing, they should at least know about that thing first, not just say something that is not true and fake. I will fight the people who say terrible things about my family. Well, if it is just a joke, that will be ok. However, if it is extremely rude, I will beat that person up. I have never fought someone because of someone say bad things about my family, and I hope I will not in the furture. The only reasons that I fought somebody in the past are they tease me and they are playing my stuffs (they didn't say bad things about my stuff, they were just playing with it. I told them to stop, but they didn't listen). I think it is sometimes necessary to use violence to defend yourself or someone else. I think we should use violence sometimes, because there are just some people in this world don't know how to be thankful or grateful. When you treat them nice, they will think you as a wimpy kid, later he or she will just start picking on you, and that is just very repugnant.

Quiz or Circle

I think reading circle is better idea. One good thing about reading circle is people share their ideas about the novel, which can help people to understand more about the book. It will be pretty boring if nobody talks, every one just sits their and waiting for someone to speak first. Reading Quiz is a good way for making sure that the person actually read the book himself or herself. It is, because you need to find the answer from the book by your self. Even though reading quiz is a good way for checking whether you actually understand what the story is about, it is very wasting time and hard for me to just look for every answer for every single questions. Reading quiz and reading circle are both not bad, but I still like reading circle more. Reading circle can help student to understand what the other students think about one specific event or one specific part of the story.

OOPS!

When I was 7 years old, I knew a kid that was same age as me in my neighborhood. His name is xxxx. He plays a lot of video games, like Maple Story, LF2, Mario, AVA......Not only that he plays a lot, but he is also very good at playing them. I and the kid then later became friends, we went to each others house very often during the weekends. We play video games, playing chess, and talking. His grades was indifferent when he was in elementary school, and he wasn't a very hardworking student, he was just a normal student with normal grades with normal life. After a couple years, we both went to middle school. I went to Pacific American School, and he went to San Ming (三民). Surprisely, he became so hardworking after he had gone to middle school. He became so hardworking that he sometimes brought his text books to my house to study. His grades become much better compare to elementary school, espacially his english. He used to score 60 or lower on his english final when he was in elementary, but now he scored 80 or more. We got less chance to play together since middle school, but that is ok for me, cause I know the stress of being a local middle school student. They need to start prepare for the coming up test, which will decide which high school they will go to.

Below the Surface

Yes, I did discover new things from someone. The new things can be either good or bad, which either makes you happy or disappointed. For example you meet a person. The person looks nice and generous, however, he speaks bad words all the times, that may be very disappointed. Even though the discovery on someone can be sad, there may be happy discoveries on someone. For example: you saw an ugly guy. He is not too smart, but later you found out he is a very generous person. He is treating other people in a polite way. I think other people have judged me just by appearance, and I have think none of them are good things. Well, some of judgements are true, some are not true. Anyway, I think people shouldn't judge other people just by their appearance. I think that is very stupid and mean. For example if you saw a fat and ugly guy, you think he is stupid. We all know that is not true, because ugly, fat people can be smart. It is just that some people just think fat people are stupid.

Your Game

My board game will be similar to monopoly, but there will be more fun. The maxiumum players will be 6 players, and minimum 2 players. Each players will first have 2000 dollars, and they have to use the 2000 dollars wisely. The number of steps will be decided by spinner or dice, same as monopoly. There will be cards that the players will pick when they arrive certain place, the cards will be either good or bad. The players can buy things like rice factory, market, weapon factory......They buy this stuff in order to make more money. People can also hire assassins to kill other players. I havn't thought of a way how the assassin things are going to work, but I will think of a solution. The level of the assassins depend on the amount of money. The higher level the assassins are, the more possibilities that mission will succeed. The goal of this game is to get a lot of money, so that you can kill the other players, the dead people will lose the game. If the player has no more money, which mean he or she bankrupts, that person lose the game also.

Your Ending

Louder! Louder! Louder! I can't hold this anymore! I scream, shout as loud as possible as I can. The two police officers look very nervous, one of them use his hand to shut my mouth. I gone wild, I bit his hand as hard as I can. All the sudden, blood burst out from his hand. He cried and beg me for stop biting him, but I couldn't do it. I felt like if I let go, the heart beating sound will only become louder and louder, and will drive me crazy eventually. The other police was very nervous, he tried to push me away, but it was hard. After a long time of struggle and battle, I finally couldn't hold anymore, I let go. The hand that I bit was cover with blood, saliva, and pain. They were scared, they ran out of the house fast like a wind, and slammed the door hardly! My teeth was now covered with blood, I was tired. After about 10 minutes, I saw some police cars outside. The car noise had woke me up, I was nervous, really nervous! I broke the glass window, and ran towards the darkness. Why do they do this to me? I am not crazy, I am just nervous.

Summary of Tell-Tale Heart

Tell-Tale Heart is a story talks about a man that doesn't think he is crazy, he thinks that he is just nervous. From the actions and speeches, we can infer that he is actually a crazy person. In the story, the main character wants to kill an old man, not because the old man has done something bad to him, it is just his eyes has made him uncomfortable. The man wants to kill an old man just because of his eyes! Doesn't that sounds crazy? The man has been observing the old man for 7 days. Finally, on the eight day, the man was hidden right next to the old man's bed. The old man found out that there was something wrong about his room, he felt like someone was in his room, and prepare to do something bad to him. As the old man's heart beats get louder and louder, the narrator is getting more and more nervous. Finally, the narrator killed the old man by the bed. Eventually, the police came to the house for some investigation. The narrator first stays calm, but later he heard the heart beats (his own), he became nervous. He thought that the polices have heard the heart beat, and they were just pretending that they didn't hear anything. The narrator couldn't take that any more, he confessed his crime.

Deception

Honestly, I don't really get why the author uses misconception in this story. In the book "The Westing Game", the author leaves tons of questions and uncertain answer for the readers. What is that person? That person doesn't exist? That person is died? What? This book just leaves me so many questions, so many questions that I don't even know what questions do I have. I think the writer uses this kind of misconception, because she wants the reader to read the story times. Since we are not able to understand the story the first time, we will have to read more times in order to catch up what is going on with the story. The writer is trying confuse us with this kind of technique, so that we will read the story more carefully and more slowly. This type of misconception makes me feel very depressed and frustrated. I am very angry to myself that I can't understand what is the book talking about, that confuses me a lot.

Hints and Foreshadowing

In the story "The Tell-Tale Heart", a man says that he is just dreadfully nervous, but not crazy. He gives a lot of clues that hints that he is a abnormal, unusual man. First, he wanted to kill the old man that had always treated him nice. Second, he said that he didn't move a muscle when the old man thought that someone was in his room. Third, he confessed his crime very soon after he killed the old man. The actions and speech that the narrator acted out makes people very sure that he is a crazy. At the beginning part of the story, the narrator says "True!-nervous-very,very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say I am mad?....."This sentence makes people feel uncomfortable and creepy. Usually, people who are crazy won't say that they are crazy. From this sentence, we can know that this story will be very queer and strange. Over all, the writer has used a lot of foreshadowing and hints that help readers to anticipate what will happen later, the mood is scary and creepy that little kids may have nightmare after they read the story......

Narrator

Narrator is the person who is telling the story for us, they can be either trustable or untrustable. Sometimes, narrator can't be trusted is because of the exaggeration, they make thing sounds too exaggerated, which has a high possibility that it is not true. In the story "Tell-Tale Heart'', the narrator says that he is just nervous, and he isn't crazy. He needs to kill the old man, just because of his eyes are making him uncomfortable, even that old man treat him nice. The man takes a hour just to take a look. Even though the narrator says that he is not a crazy person, but from his speech and his action, we can't really believe that he is a normal person. I am not very sure about why the autor will create a unreliable character, mabye he just wants the reader to think more while we are reading his or her story. He wants us to get suspicious about the narrator's words, which can make the story more interesting. I can't really tell that the person is saying the truth or not, but most of the times, I can distinguish that is the narrator telling the truth or not. The language that the person use, the action he does, his appearance......all of them are useful on knowing whether the person is telling the truth.

Scary Story

Honestly, I am scare of many things. For examples: monsters, ghosts, scary people......But the thing I scare the most is actually roaches. I am even scare of actually say the name of that creature out, it just feels scary for me. Well, I guess the reason that I am scare of roaches is that they look creepy and ugly, they move super fast with their thin, weird legs, and they are super oily. I remember one story about roaches. One time, I went out after I finished my shower, I wore my shoes, and then I felt something strange is happenning with one of my feet. I took a look, and then I found out there was a tiny roach hidding in my shoe. I was terrified, and so as that roach. It quickly crowed over my feet and gone like a wind. I didn't shout or scream when I saw that roach, mabye it was because I was too scared. After that roach was gone, I took a look on my feet. I found out that my feet was super oily, so oily that I can't find any vocabularies to describe about it. It takes for me about 10 minutes to clean my toes, it was unbelievable! I can't really imagine that such small creature can make such amount of oil! I hope that no more roaches will appear in our house.

Ode

Well, I have some ideas about ode.
Here are some examples for ode
EX1:
                            Airplane
                    -The airplane flies
                    -The airplane glides
                    -Going left and right
                    -Rising and falling
-It flies across the oceans and lands
                 -Making noise like radio
             -Causing vibrations like earthquake
                 -People on the airplane
            -Some Dili-Dali with cosolation
-Some wondering when will they drop off
-Some play video games with excitements
            -Some eats food with satisfaction
                       -Anything is possible
                          -Well, on airplane
                               The End
Well, this is my first example of an ode. As you can see, this is a not so good and short ode ( in my opinion), because I didn't use to write poem a lot. Anyway, I have a second example, please take a look.
EX2:                            Apple
                                    -Apple
                            -a sweet, red food
                         -fruit and not vegetable
-hard to play as a basketball
-because it is not a sphere, and not bouncy
-but easy to use on science experiment
-because it has seeds, and it is fruit
                             -apples grow on tree
-not just trees, but apple trees
-apple trees are grown in many places
                                 -around the world
                    -United States, Japan, German, Itay
                                       -I like apple
                                        -it is tasty
                                      -it is healthy
                                 -it gives me energy
                                 -if you are available
                                  -eat some apples!
                                         The End
Basically, this is all. Thank you very much!

Lunar New Year

For this new year, I went to Taipai two times. It was pretty fun! Even though there were many good and happy events happened during Chinese New Year, there were still sad events. First, I broke my glasses at the first day of Chinese New Year. That was super unlucky! The first day! That meant I couldn't fix the glasses until Chinese New Year over, I have to wear contact every day in New Year (I am not very good at putting contacts). Second, I was sicked. This was after I went to Taipai two times. I wasn't really sure what kind of disease I had, but I had a headche and I felt like sneezing all the times. It took me three days on healing my sickness, it was pretty painful! The first times that I went to Taipai was for meeting my grandfather. We were in joy on eating hot-pot for dinner. One thing special about the restaurant that we went was they didn't kill the shrimp, they were still alive when we got them. We just threw the alive shrimp into the hot water, and watched their skin color changed from grey to orange. That was kind of scary! The second time that we went to Taipai was for meeting my mom's brothers and sisters. We went to Yung Ming Mountain at Taipai together, it was very fun and foggy there. I also got red envelops from my mom's brothers and sisters. I am not very sure how much I get, but I know it is not few. Basicaly, this was all my 2011 Chinese New Year.

Prose o Poetry

I didn't really understand about poetry and prose, so I went up to internet and search for them. From wikipedia it says that prose is the ordinary form of spoken and written language whose unit is the sentence, rather than the line as it is in poetry. Poetry is is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. From the definition, I feel like prose is easier and less complex and poetry, because it is just basically stating something. It doesn't express some very thoughtful idea like poetry, but the idea is easier to express. Anyway, what I am saying is that people will know the prose easier. Poetry is different. It often expreeses very thougthful idea, which often confuses people a lot. Poetry contains many rhymes in it, some of them are like rap.Personally, I prefer prose instead of poetry. I choose prose, because I don't like complicated thing. Well, actually poetry and prose are both complicated for me, but I think prose is more simple, that is why I like prose more.

Outsiders Film v Book

Personally, I think the Outsiders book is very interesting. It mentions about every little details in the story, for example it describes about the church that Johnny and Ponyboy lived, the relationship between Socs and Greasers, and the accident that happened to Ponyboy's parents. The book has expressed a complete feeling, because it has full of details to describe about it. The movie of "The Outsiders" is totally different than the book. First, the movie shows a lot less detail compare to the book. You can see that from several parts of the movie. First, it hasn't talked about what happened to Ponyboy's mom and dad in the movie. In the book, it says that their parents die because of a car accident, but not in the movie at all. Second, the movie didn't really state about the relationship between Socs and Greaser very clearly. If I didn't read the book, I wouldn't be able to know that the socs are rich kids and greasers are the poor kids. I think the film maker is trying to create the feeling that the story makes, he is trying to express the story in his own way, not just copy the whole story. I think that is very good, it is good to be more creative. Totally, I think the movie is pretty good, but it just that people will know more about the story through reading.

Film v Print

I think the biggest difference between books and movie is that movies need actors, and books don't. Movies cost a lot of money, and books cost not that much. When you are reading a book, the book doesn't just show you the scene of that story, you have to have imagine the scene yourself. You can imagine the character's looking from the book description, and I think that will be very interesting. Also, books show the detail of that story, the details that people won't pay attention in the movie. The details can help the readers to understand or predict the plot of that story. Movies are different than books. In the movie, you don't need to imagine. The characters and the scenes of the story show up themselves. Also, movie doesn't show that much detail, sometimes they even skip parts of the story. For example in the book"The Outsiders", it spends about 1 chapter talks about Ponyboy comes home late, and Darry is very angry about that. In the movie, it only spends couple seconds to present that part. That shows the huge difference between books and movies. I think both movies and books had advantage and disadvantage. The advantage of movies is it helps you to overview the story. If you don't have time on reading books, you can watch movie instead. However, movies don't usually show the details. Books can help the readers to imagine, which makes them smarter. However, it takes too much time on reading a book.

Making a Choice

For me, this is the hardest journal since I start writing blog.It is very hard to decide whether I should kill three people in our class or we all die together. It is hard, because I afraid that my classmates will have strong opinion on my blog after they finish reading, which I don't like it to happen. After thinking a long time, I decided to choose none of them. I choose to all live together! I don't believe that we have to kill three people in order to make us all survive. If there is a way to make 9 people to survive, there must have a way that makes 12 people survive. It is just that everybody has to eat less food and drink less water. I don't want to all die together, because I don't want to die, becuase death doesn't mean any good for anyone. Death doesn't really make us get out off that room, plus it will be very scary that three dead body lieing on the floor, so I will rather that we all try our best to live together. We can knock door, stomp our legs, or scream as loud as possible just for getting us out of the little room. Anyway, I choose to all live together. That is not very possible, but personally, I think that is the best decision.

My Stuff

If I were stucked in a little room like Anne Frank, I will need five things. They are computer, books, chess, cards, and basketball can help me pass time. The most important that I need to pass my time is computer. With computer, I can almost do every thing I want. I can use it for watching TV and movie, checking email, contact with friends, and playing video games. Computer is very useful on killing time. You will feel time passes so fast when you are using computer. The second thing that I need to pass time are books. Well, even though I rarely read books, but if I find the book I like to read, it makes me feel that time passes fast. I like to read history or mistery books, because personally, I think they are very interesting. The third thing that can help me to pass time is chess. I can play chess with my dad a long time, mabye 3 hours. That help my brain to exercise, cause I need to think of a stratergy to defeat him, and it will change every time. The fourth thing I need is poker card. I will play poker cards with other people. We can bet for drinks or food, I am sure that will be very fun. The last thing I need is a basketball. Well, I can practice dribble and passing while we are staying in the room. I don't think that is very fun, but it kills time.

What Do You Want To Be?

After finished reading the diary of Anne Frank, I felt that it was very hard for me to choose a character. Honestly, I don't mind to be any charcter in the play, but if I must choose, I will choose the one's with simple work and easy job. I will choose narrator first. Personally, I think narrator has the least and the easiest job in this play. Narrator doesn't need to act. In that case, he or she won't be involved. That's so cheap! The only thing he or she does is to read the lines properly. Well, I don't think reading is hard for any students in our class. If I can't choose narrator, I will choose Mr.Meip. He was the Dutch man who was helping Mr.Frank and his family to escape from the Nazis, he transported the things that Frank family need during their evacation. I choose him, because of several reasons. First, he doesn't speak much in this play. Also, he only appears during the conversation with Mr.Frank. Second, he is a male. Don't ask me why! I just feel that it will be better if the genders are the same. Last, he is helping the Jewish. It feels better for me when I am acting the positive side. Anyway, these are my choices.

Teens

Anne seems very sad and mad about followed the rules that the Nazis had given to Jews. At the very beginning of the story, she just started complaining about the rules that Nazis had made for the Jews. In some part of the story, it mentions that Anne likes cat. She talked about her friend Jopie in her conversation with Peter. She was thinking about what Jopie was going to think if she didn't show up on their date, it seems that she didn't really understand what was going out there. She stayed positive in the story. She tried to think the room that they were hiding as a peculiar summer boarding house. Anne had some difference with the modern teens. First, she wrote diary. Most of the modern teens don't write diary, they felt that it was boring and annoying. Second, she stayed positive. Most modern teens in Anne's situation will be very pissed and uncalm. Even though Anne had some difference between between today's teens, they still have similarties. First, she complained about the rules that Nazis given. Well, if I were her, I will complain about the rules too. Second, she didn't like her mom to treat her like a baby. Most of the today's teens want to be more independent, and didn't like their mom to treat them like a baby. I don't think I am able to be friend with Anne, because she spoke German, I don't speak German!

Trapped!

If I were trapped in a tiny room with no TV, ipod, video game, or cellphone like Anne Frank during World War II, I will feel despair and sadness. Well, not only because that I can't go out and have something fun and interesting, I have to stay in this tiny room and live under the fear of being killed by Nazis. My family will probably have the same feeling same as me. They could have gone insane and want to suicide if they stay there too long. The good thing about staying in this tiny room forever is you don't need to go to school, market, or hospital. Everything will be solved in this little room. Also, you will be able to stay with your family together, it's better than being seperated and send to concentration camp. The bad thing about staying in this little room is that you will live under fear, live with no protection. That can drive people insane. Also, you are not able to go outside and breath some fresh air and take a walk. You will turn sick if you stay in a tiny room for too long. What I will do to occupy my time in the room is I will read books, mabye books about history and war. That is the only thing that I am able to do in that situation. Second, I will play chess or cards with some body else, that can kill a lot of time. We will probably play about like 3 or 4 games. Also, I will draw pictures, any pictures that I think of. Well, I am not really what other activity that I can do.

Why?

Hitler and the Nazis felt that they were supposed to elimanate many different kinds of people, that is why he started killing jews. Well, I don't understand why he was doing that, so I am just going to make some hypothesis about it. Hypothesis 1: He blame jews for German's great depression. After World War I, many countries asked German to pay money. That caused depression within German. I didn't know why Jews had something to do with that, but mabye he thought that German lost World War I because of them. Hypothesis 2: He thought that Jewish people were the disaster. Jewish people brought bad things to them. He elimanated them, so that the world will be peaceful (mabye, who knows?). Hypothesis 3: Hitler didn't like Jews. This is the most possible reason that he killed so many jews. He just distested them, he thought they were freak, idiot, or monster. Anyway, these are just hypothesis of why Hitler wanted to elimanate many different kinds of people, he thought that different kinds of people would destroy German. Well, I am glad that he's plan didn't succeed. If his plan succeed, all asians will be killed, including Japanese (they would against each other eventually if the war was longer). I think it is better to have many kinds of people exist on this world. People can learn from each other. Killing doesn't any problem, it only make problems.

Luck?

I don't think that Brian's survival is depend on luck more than anything else. The knowledge he learned from show, school, and play has helped him a lot for the survival. The knowledge that he learns from his life are making shelter, finding berries, and making weapons. Without the knowledge, he won't be survive a long time. He won't be able to know that the fire, he won't where the berries, and he won't know how to keep the mosiquitos away. Well, luck helps him sometimes. Like the airplane crash, not many people are lucky like him. Also, he landed on the correct place. The place with food and water that can keep him survive. Even though luck is very important for survival, it doesn't mean anything. It is impossible for people to survive all by luck, you need to have some kind of knowledge and informations to live. God is fair. He or she doesn't show favorism. OK, mabye some people have more, but everybody won't make any huge difference luck.
You still need to have the potential to succeed. I have never gotten out difficult situation just by the luck. Mabye luck helps me, but it doesn't help me to get off difficult situation. For example: when I made my dad angry. I need to act very good to cease my dad's anger. Luck doesn't appear. Well, personally, I don't really believe luck.

What Makes Fire?

The people that had taken survival class or watch some kind of survival shows should get a basic idea of how to make fire. Even though Brian didn't actually go to any class that teaches how to make fire, Brian knows how to make fire from TV show, playing, and school. Brian knows that he can't make a fire without any materials. The first method Brian tries to use is rubbing the sticks together. He tries to use the friction of rubbing to produce fire. That method has failed. Why has Brian fail making fire the first time? Mabye he didn't rub the two sticks correctly, or mabye he's using the wrong kind of sticks.Well, it is very usual for him to fail, because he had never lived in the wilderness himself before, also, rubbing two sticks is really hard to make fire! Actually, it will be a miracle if he succeed the first time! Making fire require pratices. The second method Brian uses is hit the hatchet to produce sparks, and the sparks will make fire. This method requires a lot of strength. He needs to hit the hatchet enough times and strength in order to make enough fire. Also, wind affects the fire. After sparks are made, Brian blows them. He does that, because he knows that fire gets stronger by wind.. He tries and tries, and finally fire appears.

My Winter Hoilday

Well, basically, I didn't do any really significant or important thing in this winter break. I have wasted my time usual, but I actually enjoy wasting my time. Even though it is very quite painful that you can't think of anything to do, it is still better than go to school and do your homework. Like I don't have to this blog thing during hoilday, and now I have to. I went to the Flora Expo. It was very crowdy. So crowdy that I can barely move! Many flowers could be seen there (of course!), cause is something do with flowers. People were busy on taking pictures. The flowers weren't sooo pretty, I mean it is not ugly, but it is not amazingly pretty also. Anyway, I didn't have very much joy in the Flora Expo. Mostly because that too many people were there, too crowdy and noisy. I went to visit my grandpa (dad's dad) and my grandma (mom's mom). Grandpa was ok, he still got a lot of energy. He is a healthy old man, and so as his cat. I like his cat, I play with it a lot in my grandpa's house. However, my grandma wasn't so good. She was lieing on bed, and couldn't speak. She looks pretty faint.Well, I really hope she can get better quickly! For New Year, I didn't go to Taipai 101 to watch the fire work. I was watching TV news.
